Chicken Methi (Fenugreek) Masala

Well, The recipe that I’ll be sharing with you today is v.close to my heart as during my hostel times I tried my hands on this dish & since then my love for cooking hasn’t stopped.

This is one of the most ‘Authentic Recipe'.

Chicken Methi (Fenugreek) Masala 

Authentic Indian Curry Masala

Prep Time:30 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time: 2 hours
Serves: 6

Ingredients :

  • 1 kg whole chicken
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 3 large Onions chopped
  • 5 Tomatoes chopped 
  • 1 Tbsp Coriander powder 
  • 1 Tbsp Red pepper powder 
  • 1 Tbsp heaped Ginger - Garlic Paste 
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 cup Dried fenugreek leaves (Kasuri methi) or 1 cup fresh Fenugreek leaves
  • Whole garam masala:
    • 1 bay leaf
    • 2 Green cardamon 
    • 4 Cloves
    • 1 stick Cinnamon
    • Few Pepper Corns
  • 4-5 Green Chillies
  • 3 Tbsp Cream
  • Coriander for garnishing

Method :

  • Take oil. Add whole garam masala. When it starts to splutter add chopped onions.  Sauté it. Add ginger-garlic paste and fry till onions turn brown. Add chopped tomatoes, cover and cook till mushy.
  • Add all spices and cook till masala leaves oil. 
  • Add chicken (and methi leaves if you using fresh ones). Cover . Keep on stirring in between till chicken becomes tender and leaves oil and masala are dark brown. Add dried fenugreek leaves, little water, 2 tbsp cream. Cook for 1 to 2 boils. Turn off the gas. 
  • Garnish with remaining 1 tbsp cream, slitted green chilies and lots of coriander leaves.

Note :
  • Instead of oil, you can even use desi ghee.
  • If you don't have whole garam masala, you can even use 1 Tbsp Garam Masala powder.
